Why Homann's Africa
For more than thirty years, we have devoted our lives to the study and practice of African safaris. Since 1992, our involvement has spanned professional guiding, camp management, and—today—advising on and designing highly customized private journeys in collaboration with independent local operators and licensed guides.
Mark earned his Professional Guide’s License in Zimbabwe in 1994 and has guided across Africa ever since. Over the decades, we have built deep professional networks, firsthand field insight, and enduring relationships with respected safari operators throughout East and Southern Africa.
While Mark personally guides a small number of select journeys each season by special arrangement, most safaris are led by experienced partner guides employed by independent operators, chosen for their professionalism, knowledge, and shared standards of care.

Our family’s story is deeply woven into Africa’s land and people. From generations of farming in South Africa to settling among Zimbabwe’s granite kopjes, our connection to the continent is not only professional—it is ancestral. This heritage informs our respect for wilderness, local cultures, and the vital role that thoughtful, sustainable tourism plays in protecting both.
Today & Beyond
Today, we combine personal passion with decades of professional experience to advise on and help shape bespoke journeys defined by authenticity, depth, and detail. Mark continues to revisit key regions annually to maintain firsthand knowledge, while Maria travels widely to evaluate new experiences and nurture relationships with partner lodges and guides.
Traveling frequently with our children has further shaped our understanding of family safaris and multi-generational travel. From the planning stages through your time in Africa, we provide careful guidance and coordination in collaboration with trusted partners, supporting journeys that feel meaningful, memorable, and well considered.

The Next Generation
Homann’s Africa is not only shaped by decades of field experience — it is strengthened by the next generation of our family.
Our children, Alexandra and Max, are actively involved in the company while pursuing their university studies. Having grown up traveling extensively across Africa — from the Serengeti and the Okavango Delta to Rwanda’s volcanic forests — they bring a contemporary perspective to the evolving expectations of today’s safari traveler.
Their contributions include research, itinerary refinement, conservation partnership analysis, digital systems management, and guest-experience development. They assist with destination reviews, sustainability evaluation, and the ongoing refinement of our operational processes.
Importantly, their involvement reflects more than family pride — it represents continuity. As a family-run advisory firm, we believe stewardship matters. Africa is not simply a destination we sell; it is a region we study, revisit, and remain accountable to across generations.
By working within the business while completing their studies, Alexandra and Max are gaining practical experience in conservation-based tourism, ethical travel design, and the operational discipline required to support private journeys responsibly.
